Obituary for Tom Mackey

Thomas E. Mackey, Sr., 91

EAST LIVERPOOL - Thomas E. Mackey, Sr., of LaCroft, passed away Wednesday morning, April 27, 2022, at his home while surrounded by his loving family. He was 91.

Born August 22, 1930, in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late Howard Gould and Phyllis Crawford Mackey.

A lifetime area resident, including 60+ years in the LaCroft community, he retired from D.W. Dickey & Son in 1995 as plant manager after 27 years of service.

A veteran of the Korean War, Tom served with the U.S. Army.

Mr. Mackey is a lifetime member of LaCroft Church of the Nazarene, where he served in many capacities. Tom was a Sunday school teacher for 35+ years, served the church as Sunday school superintendent, a long-time board member, and retired after three decades as church treasurer. A backer of youth sports, Mr. Mackey helped organize and coach both the basketball and softball teams at the church. He also played softball and bowled representing his church. He is a member of the East Liverpool Church Softball Hall of Fame.

Tom Sr. and his loving wife, Shirley Gilkison Mackey, recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary, having married April 9, 1954.

A long and loving marriage often produces many branches of a family tree and Tom and Shirley's enduring partnership is proof.

The couple has six children. Surviving their father are four daughters: Cynthia Youst and her husband, Frank, of East Liverpool, Deborah White and her husband, Joe, of East Liverpool, Nancy Mackey of East Liverpool, and Janice Hovis and her husband, Shane, of Plain City, Ohio; and two sons: Thomas E. Mackey Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of East Liverpool, and James R. Mackey of East Liverpool.

There are blending of 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren surviving their Pap. Grandchildren include Jason (Kristen), Jenny, Brad (Casey), Shawn (Megan), Thomas III (Elizabeth), Bobby (Nicole), Tricia (Zach), Becky (Jessica), Greg (Jessica), Andrew, Courtney (Chad), Aleece (Mark), Ricky, Christopher, Jessica, Lindsey (Matt) and Shane Jr. Great-grandchildren include Kylie, Lora, Katelyn, Jules, Josie, Sam, Cameron, Hannah, Bradyn, Bodhi, Isla, Thomas IV, Nate, Banner, Sophia, Riley, Morgan, Zach Jr., Jhase, Justuce, Aadien, Noah, Jaycee, Carter, Angelina, Maddi, Brook, Evie, Jaxon, Theo and Dawson.

A sister, Dixie Morris, of East Liverpool, also survives.

He was preceded by a brother, Gould Ross Mackey; a sister, Louise Elyson; and two grandsons, Ben and Anthony.

His late grandmother, Blanche Reynolds Mackey, was a very important part of his upbringing.

He is earning his rewards after his faithful serving of his Lord.

Friends may visit the family from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the Dawson Funeral Home. Following visitation, Pastor Carolyn Hardy of LaCroft Church of the Nazarene will officiate a funeral service at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
