Obituary for Thomas C Williams

Thomas C. Williams, 91

PITTSBURGH – Thomas C. Williams, a lifelong resident of East Liverpool, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness. He was 91.

Born in East Liverpool on October 22, 1925, he was a son of the late William and Rebecca Nesbitt Williams. A graduate of East Liverpool High School, Tom had worked at several area potteries, including Taylor Smith & Taylor, Harker China and the Homer Laughlin China Company as a warehouseman.

A veteran of WW II, he served with the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946.

Tom enjoyed fishing and sports of all kinds – especially OSU football, and ELHS football – and he had not missed a home game at Patterson Field for over 50 years. He liked walking everywhere and attributed his longevity to it. Naturally curious, Tom loved to hear about the lives of his grandsons. He entertained many with his stories and his quick wit, which was still apparent until the end. He loved reading the daily newspapers and watching his favorite TV shows. Tom never met a dessert he didn’t like. He will be remembered most of all as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

His wife, Kathryn Ann “Kate” Maltarich Williams, whom he married on September 3, 1948, survives at home. Together they raised three children, a daughter, Susie Jackson, and her husband Mike, of Cortland, and two sons, Mike Williams, of East Liverpool, and the late Daniel L. Williams, who passed away on January 6, 2014. There are four grandchildren: Max Jackson, Joshua Williams, Jarrod Williams and Zachary Williams, along with his daughter-in-law Mary Ash-Williams of East Liverpool.

Tom is also survived by two sisters, Pearl Lonkert, and Jenny Hester, as well as a brother Dave Williams, and his wife Marilyn, all of East Liverpool, and numerous other family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Tatgenhorst, and by five brothers: Charles, John, Bob, Bud and Don Williams.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 5 p.m., officiated by Bob Tatgenhorst of Hope Christian Fellowship in Wellsville. Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
