Virgil L. Reynolds, 88

EAST LIVERPOOL – Virgil L. Reynolds, of Michigan Avenue, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Calcutta Health Care Center following an illness of one year. He was 88.

Born in East Liverpool, March 25, 1927, he was a son of the late Lee and Daisy Campbell Reynolds.

A World War II veteran, he served with the U.S. Army as an M.P. in Berlin, Germany. Following the war, Virgil worked in the hot strip at the former Crucible Steel Company for 35 years until his retirement in 1982.

He enjoyed building model boats, especially his model of the Delta Queen which is on display at the Lou Holtz Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame. A member of the Save Our County organization, he was also passionate about his community and would often be an advocate for causes he believed in. Above all things in life, he loved his family and was happiest when he was surrounded by them.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly M. Downard Reynolds, on May 30, 2006. The couple married December 31, 1950. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Jesse Reynolds, Jack Reynolds and Clifford “Skip” Reynolds along with a great-grandson Kyle Landsford.

Survivors include his children: a daughter Sharyl Ann Mihalik and her husband, Dan, of Mishawaka, Indiana; two sons, Don Reynolds and his wife, Marlene, of East Liverpool, and Daniel Reynolds of Kansas. There are eleven grandchildren: Holly Reynolds-Russell and her husband, Dennis, Brian Reynolds and his wife, Michelle, Chandra Johnson, Daniel Reynolds, Daniel Keith Reynolds, Lorie Beth Reynolds, Dale Reynolds, Heidi Landsford and her husband, Brian, Mary Cunningham and her husband, Matt, Anna Mihalik and Emma Mihalik, as well as 16 great-grandchildren.

Also left to cherish his memory are a special niece, Patty Reynolds Mook, and three nephews, Robert Reynolds, Kenny Reynolds and his wife, Judy, and Bub Reynolds.

Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Rev. Alvin Talkington of the Boyce United Methodist Church will conduct a funeral service Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Mill Creek Hill Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
