Obituary for Vivian L. Mays Smalley
Vivian L. Mays Smalley, 58
CHESTER, WV – Vivian L. Mays Smalley, of Chester, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021, at her home while surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 58.
Born in East Liverpool, June 25, 1962, she was a daughter of Mary C. Sullivan Mays of East Liverpool and the late Kenneth C. Mays. A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1980, she continued her education at West Liberty University. She later earned her master’s degree from the University of Dayton. For over thirty years, she worked for the East Liverpool City School District where she taught at Westgate School. Vivian enjoyed shopping, reading, writing poetry and working on puzzles. She loved her dogs and had many close friends. Above everything in life, she loved her family.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Steve Smalley, whom she married July 15, 1989. She also leaves a daughter, Rachel Smalley Briscoe and her husband, John, of Chester, as well as two sisters, Kathy Morehead and her husband, Jim, of East Liverpool, and Crystal VanRooyen of Oregon.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Mays.
Friends may visit Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Rick Tinsky of the Christian Church of New Cumberland will conduct a funeral service Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
