EAST LIVERPOOL – William W. “Bill” Gabbert, of East Liverpool, passed away Sunday morning, February 13, 2022, at the Orchards of East Liverpool following a lengthy illness. He was 88.
Born in East Liverpool, March 13, 1933, he was a son of the late James Gabbert, Sr. and Eleanor Stragg Gabbert. For over 30 years, he worked in the hot strip at the former Crucible Steel Company until his retirement in 1982. An area resident most of his life, he was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool where he was an usher and a greeter and served on the church board. Recently, he had been attending the Destiny House. Bill was a member of the East Liverpool Area YMCA for over 50 years.
He was preceded by his wife, Rose E. Gabbert in 1999. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Ann Gabbert, a sister, Doris Ulbright, and a brother, James Gabbert, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory is his second wife, Emily Lane Gabbert, at home, a daughter, Tracey Jean Grimm and her husband, William, of Richland, Washington, and a son, William Michael “Mike” Gabbert, and his wife, Leslie, of Rogers, along with his stepchildren: Brenda Harris and her husband, William of Mineral Ridge, Beth Kline of Mineral Ridge, Barbara Rhodes and her husband, William, of Texas, and David Goodman and his wife, Jodie, of East Liverpool.
There are 16 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
A sister survives as well, Betty Bissell and her husband, Dick, of East Liverpool.
Family and friends may visit Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Pastor Court Riddle will conduct a funeral service Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
