Obituary for William Gary Gallagher

SALEM, OHIO – William Gary Gallagher, 80, of Wellsville went back to the Father on Monday, June 21, 2021 Father’s Day at Salem Regional Hospital.

Gary was born in East Liverpool on August 4, 1940 a son of the late John James and Virginia Margaret (Sinclair) Gallagher. He was a graduate of East Liverpool High School class of 1958.

Gary retired from Iron City Distributing in October of 1999 where he worked as a salesman. He will always be remembered for his kindness and compassion, but mostly he was truly a gentleman.

Gary faced some challenges in his life’s journey. He fought a long courageous fight against the ravages of dementia and Parkinson’s disease. Gary loved to be around people and wanted to hear everyone’s story and join in their laughter. He brought peace and comfort to those around him. Gary would smile and shrug his shoulders in a way that questioned, “Does it Matter?”

In addition to his parents Gary was preceded in death by two brothers Robert Raymond Gallagher and John “Jack” Gallagher.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, whom he married June 10, 1981, Sherry (Sheen) Gallagher; son Douglas MacDonald and his wife Vanessa of Lisbon; daughter Reagan Forsyth and her husband Jim of Poland, OH; three grandchildren; brother and best friend Dan Gallagher and his wife Mary of Edon, OH; sister Judy Whitehead and her husband Bob of East Liverpool and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to Community Hospice and Salem Hospital. They would also like to say thank you very much to the neighbors and friends that loved him so much.

Per Gary’s request a private family service was held and he will be laid to rest in Ireland, Donegal County.

Gary is now playing softball in Heaven with his brothers.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dawson Funeral Home.
