EAST LIVERPOOL – William A. “Bill” Melott, of East Liverpool, passed away Monday morning, September 7, 2020 while surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness. He was 70.
Born in East Liverpool, December 14, 1949, he was a son of the late John C. Melott and Alice Mae Moss Melott Richards. A lifetime area resident, he was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1967. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970 as a Specialist. Bill returned home and worked for East Liverpool City Hospital and then worked as an operator for Quaker State until retiring in 1985.
A proud American, Bill was an active member of many local veteran associations, including the VFW Post #66 (life member), the DAV Post #47 (life member), the East Liverpool Chapter of the Vietnam Vets, and the Chester American Legion Post #121. Bill was an original founding member of the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group.
He is survived by his wife, D. Louise Mottin Melott. The couple married July 24, 1970. There are two daughters, Linda Maharick and her husband, Patrick, and Billie Jo Melott, all of East Liverpool, along with five grandchildren: Maggie and Abbie Maharick, Zachary Radcliffe, and Nathan and William Bryant, and three great-grandchildren: Alice Rose Radcliffe, Airyonna Radcliffe and Nevaeh Call.
Also left to cherish his memory are his two brothers: Robert Melott and Roger Richards, and a brother-in-law David Mottin as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Caleb Radcliffe, three sisters: Linda Jeffries, Georgia Gardner and Shelby John, and three brothers, John Roy Melott, Herbert Melott and Ron Melott.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 11:00 a.m. up until the time of the service. Masks and social distancing required. The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.
For those unable to attend, the service will be broadcast through the Dawson Funeral Home Facebook page at 3:00 p.m. Thursday.
