WILLIAM DAVID “DAVE” THOMPSON, 77

LISBON – William David “Dave” Thompson, born at home in Gavers, Ohio, on January 23, 1940, passed away at 9:48 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2017 at the East Liverpool City Hospital. Dave, who resided on State Route 154 in Lisbon, had been ill just a short time and died at the age of 77.

A son of the late David William and Lois Warrick Thompson, he was a 1958 graduate of David Anderson High School. He was an old car enthusiast, and enjoyed going to the Rogers Sale. All who knew him will say that his family was – and always had been – the most important part of his life. Throughout the years, he went out of his way to help many people, and he left a lasting impression on others with his great sense of humor, his unique laugh and his devotion to his loved ones.

Dave had been a boilermaker for over 27 years at the former Crucible Steel Corporation, and was currently driving for Ferguson School Bus Transport System.

On February 1, 2007, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel French Thompson, whom he married on September 22, 1957. They were the proud parents of eight children.

Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Young and her husband, Harris, of Georgetown, TX, and Diana “DeDe” Thompson of Lisbon. Dave also leaves behind five sons: David Thompson and his wife, Renee, of New Waterford; Warren Thompson and his wife, Darla, of Pflugerville, TX; Mark Thompson and his wife, Dorothy, of Lisbon; Duane Thompson and his wife, Tammy, also of Lisbon; and Brad Thompson and his wife, Janet, of Ozona, TX. Another son, Bret Thompson, passed away in 2003; his wife, Aileen, resides in Georgetown, TX.

There are eighteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A brother, Walter Thompson, survives in East Liverpool. Two other brothers, Daniel and George Thompson, preceded Dave in death.

Friends may visit with the family at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Norm Eckert of the Beechwood Free Methodist Church officiating. Dave will be laid to rest at Kimble Cemetery in Elkton.
