Obituary

Bruce D. Smith, 77

EAST LIVERPOOL – Bruce Daniel Smith, of East Liverpool, passed away at his home Monday, March 18, 2024. He was 77.

Born in East Liverpool, November 30, 1946, he was a son of the late Wilson F. and Stella A. Skaleski Smith. A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1964, he was a member of the baseball, wrestling and track teams. He bravely answered the call of duty and served his country with U.S. Army during Vietnam. A well-respected craftsman, he owned and operated Bruce Smith Cabinets. He was proud of his carpentry work and valued his customer's satisfaction. Previously, he worked for various area companies including Mike Turk Chevrolet, Crucible, and Youngstown Sheet and Tube. A dedicated athlete, he enjoyed sculling on the river and local lakes. He was a lifelong bicyclist, for many years he rode in the TOSRV 200-mile tour originating in Columbus. As a sculler, Bruce competed in races in both Pittsburgh and Cleveland. He was a lifelong reader and seeker of knowledge. Bruce was heavily influenced by the 1960s and moved back to the family farm to "live off the land." He built a home on the original foundation of the 1802 homestead house. He was an expert organic gardener and gave away many of his vegetables to customers and friends. He was a lead singer for several area rock n roll bands. In 1994, Bruce decided to organize a concert on the farm featuring local bands to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Woodstock. The No Nukes Concert, as it became known, continued for several years after that.

He is survived by his three sisters, Stephanie Montgomery and her husband, James, of Oklahoma, Pamela Jeffries of East Liverpool, and Valerie Caffro of East Liverpool, and a brother, Wilson Jeffrey Smith of East Liverpool. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Family and friends will gather at Coaches Restaurant from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 23rd. The Dawson Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
