Obituary

EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO – Freeda Mae Adkins, 91, of East Liverpool passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born August 23, 1932, in Garretts Bend, WV, a daughter of the late Frank and Reba (Sansom) Goode. Freeda later moved to East Liverpool with her husband, William Edward Adkins, where she made her home and raised their family, whom she loved fiercely. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Freeda was a graduate of Capital City Commercial College in Charleston, WV. She studied stenography and dictation which prepared her for a distinguished career as a secretary and office manager at Kent State University, East Liverpool Campus. In addition to her professional work, Freeda will be remembered for her service to the church and tireless volunteerism, including with the FISH Food Bank, a cause near to her heart. Her generosity of time and spirit touched many lives.

In her free time, Freeda enjoyed gardening, cooking, and decorating. She often spent months creating a welcoming holiday home to bring family together. Over the years as her family moved to different places, she traveled great distances to be present for special occasions.

Left to cherish Freeda's memory are her son Allen Adkins and his wife Kathy; four grandchildren, Erin Grayson and her husband Tony, Nate Adkins, Joel Adkins and his wife Amanda, and Michael Adkins; great grandchildren Deleno Suarez, Zane Adkins, Aiden Grayson, Corinne Grayson, Madison Adkins, Caleb Grayson, Avery Adkins, Noah Adkins, and Oliver Adkins; one great great grandchild, Ezra Suarez; two sisters Alma Paden and her husband Don, and Bobbi Mays and her husband Joe, and two brothers Denzil Goode and Carroll Goode and his wife Jill.

Preceding Freeda in death were her husband, William Edward Adkins; son, David Adkins; and grandson, Jonathan Adkins.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday where the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Erin Grayson, Freeda's granddaughter, and Rev. Claudia Britton of First United Methodist Church, will conduct a service at the Funeral Home on Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Immediately following the service, the family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
