G. Robert "Bob" Johnson, 96

CHARLESTON, WV – G. Robert "Bob" Johnson, a cherished former resident of East Liverpool, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 in Charleston, West Virginia.

Born on October 18, 1927, in Midland, Pennsylvania, Bob was the son of the late Gail and Helma I. Hayberg Johnson. He graduated from East Liverpool High School with the Class of 1945 and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. During the war, he travelled throughout Europe playing on the Army basketball team. After his military service, Bob pursued higher education at Ohio University. He was a Field Engineer at Crucible Steel until 1982, and later worked as a field manager at Stevens Painton Corporation.

Bob was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and led an active, community-oriented life. He was a regular at the YMCA where he loved to play basketball and ping-pong. He treasured the many friendships he made there. He was fortunate to be able to play both sport sports into his late 80's through senior Olympics which kept him in good health.

Bob, better known to his family as Pap-Pap, was their guiding light. All who knew him were enriched by his kind and loving spirit. He relished the role as family patriarch doing so in a humble and easy-going manner. He was loved and cherished by his family and the wonderful memories compiled over the years will be a comfort.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marty Brandon Johnson, whom he married on January 24, 1953. The couple shared a loving and fulfilling life together, raising three children. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Marty Diane Henley and her husband, Rudy, of Charleston, West Virginia; his sons, David Johnson and his wife, Dawn, of Amherst, Ohio, and Atty. R. Brandon Johnson and his wife, Melanie, of Lewisburg, West Virginia.

Bob's legacy continues through his 11 grandchildren: Justin Johnson and his wife, Trina, Erin Brown and her husband, Joe, Kevin Johnson, Chad Hambly, Grant Henley and his wife, Melissa, Julia Henley, and her husband, Charlie, Sarah Henley, Grace Johnson, Mary Johnson, Mackenzie Gilbert (deceased), Kyle Gilbert, Bobby Gilbert, and Parker Gilbert, as well as his six great-grandchildren: Ella, Nolan, Mason, Chloe, Grace, and Brayden.

Bob enjoyed all his wonderful friends at Harmony Senior Living in Charleston, West Virginia, where he resided for the past few years.
