Dr. Gary Howell passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on November 16, 2025. Gary was born on June 12th, 1944, a son of the late Lawton and Eileen Howell. He graduated from The University of Pittsburgh Dental School, going on to join the public health service where he spent time out west working with Native American tribes. Dr. Howell and his family moved back to Erie, PA where he was a partner dentist with Plaza Dental until his retirement. He also served on the Millcreek School Board and the Board of Erie Cathedral Preparatory School. Dr. Howell was best known though for his love and dedication to his wife Helen with whom he built a family. Gary spent his retirement traveling with his wife Helen and taking his grandchildren on many adventures.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Catherine; two sons Matthew and his wife Rachel and Marcus and his wife Justine; four grandchildren Elizabeta, Eamon, Jocelyn, and Rhys and sister Linda Watson.

An interment service for Dr. Gary and his wife Helen will be held at Riverview Cemetery on June 6, 2026, at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Rico Brown officiating. Tri State Veterans Group will provide military honors for Dr. Howell.

Services were entrusted to the Dawson Funeral Home.
