Obituary

James "Jim" D. Black, 54

Ambridge, PA — James "Jim" D. Black passed away at Heritage Valley Beaver on Sunday, May 17, 2026. He was 54 years old.

Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Don and Donna Black. Growing up, he filled every room with laughter. He was funny, outgoing, and always knew how to make people smile. Affectionately known as "My Jimmy" by his maternal grandmother, Mammam, he brought joy to those around him from an early age.

As a child, he suffered from many ear infections and underwent tympanostomy (ear tube) surgery. Doctors once told him he may be tone deaf, but he proved them wrong — developing a deep love for music, teaching himself to play guitar, writing songs, singing, and later playing in bands throughout his life. In fact, his love of music began so early that he even made his first guitar out of an erector set.

He also loved Little League baseball, was a bright student who earned excellent grades in school and was a devoted fan of Pittsburgh sports teams. During childhood, family vacations to the Jersey Shore to visit his paternal grandparents became some of his happiest memories. He loved the boardwalk, the games, and riding his bike all over town with the carefree spirit of summer. His family will forever cherish memories of the talented, funny, and kind-hearted boy they knew and loved.

As he grew older, Jim carried that same sense of humor, creativity, and love of music into adulthood. While attending Clarion University, he met his wife, Rebecca. Together they built a life and welcomed their daughter. After Rebecca's passing, Jim raised his daughter as a single father. He was dedicated to her and took great pride in being her dad.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Black and his mother, Donna Black.

He is survived by his beloved daughter Rachel Black, his sons, Logan Black and Lucas Black. He also leaves behind his sister, Karen Black (Jessie) as well as his dear friends Cindy Gentile, Neil Belcher, Chris Vogel, Jim Hallisey, and Lon Alan Pristas.

In keeping with Jim's wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dawson Funeral Home.
