Joan Elizabeth
Schwimer
Feb 11, 1939 — Mar 23, 2024
West Palm Beach, Florida- Joan Elizabeth Smith Schwimer, 85, of Jupiter passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 at 10:00 pm at Morse Memory Care in West Palm Beach surrounded by her loved ones after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
Joan was born on February 11th, 1939 in East Liverpool, Ohio to the late Richard and Lillian Naneff Smith. She graduated from East Liverpool High School Class of 1956. After graduating, she remained close to many of her friends throughout the rest of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend.
Joan was successful in all areas of her life. However, her most cherished job was being a morning radio host at WLOR in Lorain, Ohio. She loved the beach and the sunshine and to follow her passion, she moved to Florida in 1984, where she remained until her death. She was known for her natural beauty, keen intuition, and her sense of adventure. Her kindness and compassion will forever be remembered by those who knew her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire us all.
Joan is survived by her husband, Herb Schwimer, at home. There are two daughters, Gretchen Polk Furlong and her husband, Jim and Megan Polk Dennard and her husband, Paul; and one son, Stephen R. Dysert and his wife, Andi; her three stepchildren, Tuck, Michelle and Adam, who all affectionately called her "Joanie-Girl"; two grandchildren, Drew Doherty and Seamus Furlong; and one brother, Steve Smith.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Amy Polk; one son, David Polk and one brother, Richard Smith.
The Schwimer family will hold a private service in North Carolina and the Smith family will have a Celebration of Life event later this year in East Liverpool, Ohio.
The family requests contributions be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation (https://www.alzfdn.org/) in honor of Joan's Schwimer's Life.
