Louis Daniel Ludwig, 76
EAST LIVERPOOL - Louis Daniel Ludwig, 76, a lifelong resident of East Liverpool, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on December 8, 2024, his 76th birthday. Born on December 8, 1948, to Bessie Fae McWilliams Ludwig and Louis Daniel Ludwig Sr., Louis was a 1968 graduate of East Liverpool High School.
Shortly after graduation, Louis served his country with honor during the Vietnam Conflict in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973. As a young adult, he embraced his pride in the Klondike neighborhood where he grew up, contributing to its betterment through various community projects. This early dedication to service reflected his deep appreciation for his roots and his commitment to giving back.
On July 12, 1974, Louis married his soulmate, Robin Lynn Scott Ludwig. Over the course of 50 remarkable years, they created a life filled with love, laughter, and resilience. Together, they navigated life's challenges, celebrated its joys, and built a family that was the center of their world. Their golden anniversary this past summer was a testament to their enduring commitment and the countless cherished memories they shared—memories that will forever be a cornerstone of their family's legacy.
Louis dedicated 35 years of his life to the steel industry, working for Crucible Steel in Midland, Pennsylvania, for 10 years and later at North Star Steel in Youngstown, Ohio, for 25 years before retiring in 2007. His tireless work ethic and the legacy he created in his career were a testament to his sense of fulfillment and his unwavering commitment to his family's well-being. In retirement, Louis remained active, assisting his sons with their landscaping business and working part-time at Swoger Quick Lube with his dear friend, Rick. However, his favorite role in retirement was caring for his grandchildren—a job he adored above all else.
A selfless and dependable man, Louis was always willing to help others and rarely missed a moment to support his family. He especially cherished watching his grandchildren participate in athletics and extracurricular activities, whether attending in person or faithfully watching online when unable to be there. Louis also dedicated 12 years to coaching at the Old Timer's Baseball Complex, positively impacting the lives of countless young athletes.
Louis loved family vacations, always going out of his way to make them special for his children and grandchildren. From building sandcastles on the beach to cooking meals for everyone, he found joy in creating memories that his family will treasure forever. His legacy of love, hard work, and selflessness will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Louis is survived by his beloved wife, Robin; his sons, Jonathan Ludwig (Jennifer VanSickle Ludwig) and Joshua Ludwig (Mallory Yajko Ludwig); his grandchildren, Emma Ludwig, Mason Ludwig, Teryn Ludwig, and Teagan Ludwig; his brother, Daniel Ludwig (Penny Foster Ludwig) of East Liverpool; and his sister, Charlotte Wagoner of Parma, Ohio.
Friends may visit Wednesday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Louis's family will conduct a funeral service Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to River Valley Youth Baseball, 46067 Lori Lane, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920, honoring Louis's dedication to the community and his passion for youth athletics.
