Obituary

Phyllis McDowell

August 15,1927- May 13,2024

EAST LIVERPOOL - Phyllis Ann (Carpenter) McDowell died peacefully, Monday, May 13, 2024, right where she wanted to be, in the home where she was born. She was surrounded by her loving family at the age of 96. Born August 15, 1927, in East Liverpool, Ohio, Phyllis was the 13th child to the late Ernest and Jenny (Almond) Carpenter. She graduated in 1945 from East Liverpool High School. During her junior year she worked at Rand's Drug Store to earn enough money for a bus pass so she could get to school. After graduating, she worked at Ferro Louthan Plant for many years. On November 21, 1947, she married the love of her life, Arnold McDowell. During a beautiful marriage of 47 years, they built awesome memories together with their two wonderful children. On Friday nights, with white and blue cow bell in hand, you could find them at East Liverpool's Patterson Field watching Anne in the band and then later cheering Butchie in all of his activities. She was also a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Steelers and as of last year she was keeping track of hits, runs, etc. for the Pirates.

A member of Boyce Church all her life, she was always ready to serve others, often volunteering when there was a need, doing the Lord's work. She has had many friends from Eastern Stars, camping at Guilford Lake and her precious neighbors.

Preceding her in death are her husband, mother, father and all 12 of her siblings. Left to cherish her memory are: daughter Anne (Clarence-deceased) Walters, East Liverpool; son Arnold "Butch" McDowell and wife Debby, Yorba Linda, CA; granddaughter Lisa (Ken) Hodges; great-grandson Tyee Daughtery; great-granddaughter Mahogany (Corneil) Anderson; great-great-grandson Carlen Anderson and great-great-granddaughter Nayeli Anderson all from Las Vegas, NV. In addition, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins also survive.
