NEW CUMBERLAND, WV – Ray W. Cooper, 87, of New Cumberland passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Weirton Medical Center with his family by his side.

Ray was born in New Cumberland, WV on October 29, 1935 a son of the late Raymond C. and Iccie S. (Barber) Cooper. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Ray worked at the WV Division of Highways in Hancock County for 28 ½ years until he retired in 2003. He loved hunting, having his breakfast on the weekends with his daughter on her porch and most recently his favorite thing was watching the streams that the airplanes left behind as they flew overhead. Ray also enjoyed playing music with his friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend.

Preceding Ray in death were his wife Helen (Streets) Cooper; daughter Tammy M. Cooper; grandson Brian "B.J." Little; brother John H. Cooper and sister Patricia Kyle.

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters Vicki West and her husband Den and Marsha Cooper; two sons John Cooper and his companion Mary Jo Buckle and David Cooper; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; childhood friend Tom Sobel and his best friend and sidekick Sarge.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date at New Cumberland Cemetery where Tri State Veterans Burial Group will provide military honors.
