Obituary for Jeffrey Quinn Martin

Jeffrey Quinn Martin, 57, of Bank Street passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 4:55 a.m. at his residence following a courageous three year battle with cancer.

Born May 27, 1957 at East Liverpool, he was a son of the late Harold “Hap” and Frances Quinn Martin. A lifetime area resident, he worked at the Hall China Company throughout high school. After graduation from East Liverpool High School in 1975, he became employed at the former Crucible Steel Company until its closing in 1982. He then worked for Paper Service in Lisbon, Ohio. Jeff returned to work in Midland as a crane operator with ATI Steel. In total, he worked for more than 30 years producing stainless steel. He was a proud member of USWA Local #1212. He was very active in his union, serving as its Outside Guard & Shop Steward. He always had the workers best interest at heart and championed many safety issues as well. Jeff was a member of the Tennessee Squire Association and the Elks Lodge #258.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 38 years, Nancy Purton Martin, whom he married January 10, 1976. In addition, he leaves behind his two loving daughters, Jessica Borza and her husband, Matt of Lisbon, Ohio, and Samantha Kinemond and her husband, Jared of East Liverpool.

Also surviving are his two grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Tyler James Kinemond and Maley Quinn Kinemond.

There are also two sisters surviving, Darlene Watkin and her husband, Dave of Sebring, Florida, and Arlene Hobbs and her husband, Bryan of East Liverpool; many nieces and nephews as well as his sisters- & brothers-in-law.

Jeff was an avid Steelers fan, having held season tickets for many years. He made many lifelong friends at their popular tailgating parties. During his Potter football playing days, he was affectionately referred to as “Rat.”

Jeff loved spending time with his family and many friends, and was always planning for the next party, vacation, or event. With this in mind, it is not surprising that his final wishes were for a “Celebration of Life.” Jeff’s nephew, Matt Watkin, will lead a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3rd, 2014 at the Three Blessings Hall (formerly the Casting Club on McCoy Avenue in East Liverpool). Friends are then encouraged to continue reminiscing there with the family until 6:00 p.m. There are sure to be many wonderful memories and toasts to a life well lived.

The family requests contributions be made to either: The Thompson Park Playground ( c/o Fawcett Foundation/Thompson Group; P.O. Box 458; East Liverpool, Ohio 43920) or Team Mojo Foundation ( www.teammojofoundation.org)

The Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool is in charge of all local arrangements.
