Obituary for Anna McKeown (Bayer)

Anna Bayer McDonald McKeown, formerly of Susan Drive, East Liverpool, passed away Sunday morning, September 7, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 88.

Born in Ripley, West Virginia, April 6, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ida Ludwig Bayer. Anna was the last surviving of 9 children to this family. A resident of this area most of her life where she met and married her husband, David A. McDonald, Sr., she had moved to St. Louis in 2006 to reside near her son. Anna and her husband Dave, owned and operated Tri-State Appliance until his death in 1968. She continued operating the business until 1973 when she joined the East Liverpool Area YMCA where for many years she was the executive director. A member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, she was also a member of the BPW Ladies Club and East Liverpool Rotary Club.

Anna’s passion in life was her family and her home. She loved gardening, and spending time with her many friends in East Liverpool as well as her new found friends in St. Louis. Anna was the consummate mother, wife, and grandmother, always caring for others above herself.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David McDonald, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, John McKeown, along with her youngest son, Gary L. McDonald.

She is survived by a son, David McDonald, Jr., and his fiancée Julie Moran, of St. Louis, and a grandson Aric McDonald of Phoenix, Arizona. She will also be missed by nieces Joyce Hupp of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Rhondda Galatz of Palatine, Illinois and special friends Rosa Sheffer and Merce Crank of St. Louis who along with Dave and Julie provided companionship and support in St. Louis.

Friends may visit Friday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Dr. Stephen Cramer will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 13 at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

A meal will be provided after the funeral service at the Dawson Family Center. .
