Obituary for James R. Covert

EAST LIVERPOOL – James R. Covert, 86, of East Liverpool, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Calcutta Health Care Center.

Born in Newell, WV, October 19, 1928, he was a son of the late Samuel and Kathryn Barnes Covert. A machinist in the maintenance department of the former Globe Brick Co. he retired in 1984 after 30 years of service.

Jim was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving in the Pacific from 1946 to 1949. A graduate of Newell High School in 1946, he was an avid bicycler who at the age of 75 attempted the famous Tour de France climb up the Alpe d'Huez. Jim was a member of His Glorious Church in East Liverpool, he was also a regular coffee drinker at Tim Hortons.

Jim is survived by his wife Virginia “Jini” Covert whom he married on October 17, 2004, and two daughters, Mary Kathryn Ferguson of Pasadena, MD and Lisa Lynn Covert of Denver, CO. His son, Mark Steven Covert, and his wife Robin, live in N. Canton, OH. There is also one grandson, Dustin Covert of N. Canton, OH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his first wife, Dorothy J. Covert on January 3, 2003, and two infant sons, James Andrew and Anthony Michael Covert.

Friends may visit on Wednesday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday with family friend Tim Martin. Burial will follow in Locust Hill Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.
