Obituary for Lois H. Kinsey (Harmon)

LOIS H. KINSEY, 95

NASHVILLE, TN – Former local resident and longtime educator Lois H. Kinsey, died at the age of 95 at 5:32 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2015. Lois, who had moved to the Nashville area in recent years, passed away at the home of her daughter there.

She was born on July 13, 1919, in East Liverpool, a daughter of the late Henry and Marie Ward Harmon. She was educated here, having graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1937. On July 9, 1937, she married her husband, Robert Z. Kinsey, who preceded her in death on April 1, 1993.

Lois received a degree in Secondary Education from Youngstown State University in 1970, and also attended Geneva College and Kent State University’s East Liverpool campus. For many years, she was associated with Beaver Local Schools, where she taught middle school English and Literature. She was a member of the Sigma Tau Delta National English Honors Society, and also belonged to the New Century Club at one time.

Along with her husband, Bob, Lois was a longtime and loyal member of the First Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool, and enjoyed many friendships there.

Surviving her are two daughters, Judith K. Farrell, and her husband, Dr. Christis Farrell, with whom she resided in Nashville, and Margaret Kinsey, also of Nashville. There are four grandchildren: Kathryn Farrell of Portland, OR; Andrew Farrell of Johnson, VT; Sarah Gow and her husband, Bradley, of Philadelphia, PA; and Margaret Patterson and her husband, Paul, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, along with seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Lois was preceded in death by two sisters, Deloris Harmon and Janet Cairns, and three brothers, Keith, Dean and Donald Harmon.

Services will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Don Lawson of the Martins Ferry Church of the Nazarene officiating. Lois will be laid to rest beside her husband at Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
