Obituary for Frank Charles Smith

FRANK CHARLES ‘CHUCK’ SMITH, 71

EAST LIVERPOOL – Frank Charles “Chuck” Smith, 71, owner and founder of Smith & Thompson Enterprises in East Liverpool, passed away following a lingering illness on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. At the time of his death, he was in the care of Trinity West Hospital in Steubenville, with his loving family surrounding him.

A son of the late John Francis Smith and Margery D. Pickard Smith Wolf, Chuck was born in East Liverpool on January 29, 1945. He attended the former Chester High School and was a 1965 graduate of Onslow Camp Lejeune Adult High School, where he had enrolled upon enlisting with the U.S. Marines. Chuck was in the Marines for five years during the Vietnam era, primarily in Hawaii and in Camp Lejeune, where he served as an M.P.

On December 20, 1972, he married his life companion, Diana Woods Smith, who survives him at home.

Known as a dedicated worker, Chuck also enjoyed his time bass fishing with friends, and competed in various tournaments over the years, traveling across the country. When he was at home, however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a longtime member of The Living Well Church in Wellsville.

What began with a chainsaw and a truck became Chuck’s well-recognized and widely successful business, now known as Smith & Thompson Enterprises. For nearly 45 years, Chuck proudly put his heart and soul into his company, and worked with passion until the time of his illness.

In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by his children: Jordan Warrick and her husband, Lonnie, and John Smith and his wife, Mindy, all of East Liverpool. There are six beloved grandchildren: Tyler Smith, Halen Warrick, Noah Smith, Madeline Smith, Alison Sprouse and Nathan Sprouse, along with numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Chuck also leaves behind two sisters, Korrine “Hoppy” Parson and her husband, Brent, and Becky Bebout and her husband, Gary. Two sisters preceded him in death, Patricia Anderson and Margery “Sue” Jones.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Pastor Dirk Hall of the Living Well Church will conduct services at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.

Following the burial, friends and family will gather at the Living Well Church, 1620 Maple Avenue, Wellsville, Ohio 43968, for a continued time of fellowship.

Those wishing to do so may send gifts in Chuck’s memory to the church at the address listed above.
