My friend

It's been one year since the passing of Bill but I can't convince myself to remove he and Sue from my contact list. I surely miss his quick wit and humorous personality. Bill and I were flying together at summer camp in Michigan and were assigned an early morning mission to scout an area for a troop insertion. The weather was iffy at best at our dawn takeoff but I felt confident we could complete the assignment. Shortly after departing we could see the combination of fog and low clouds, I told Bill it was going to be challenging but I felt we could accomplish our mission. As we continued flying to our intended search area, the weather continued to deteriorate. Bill looked at me and asked if my ego or brain was making the decision to continue. He reminded me this was a peace time mission and no real need to risk the chance of getting stuck in the clouds. I reevaluated what he said thanked him for pulling my head out of my a__ then I performed an one eighty and returned to base. After landing and tie down, very shortly, the weather tuned to crap and we and we would have been SOL stuck in the clouds. Sometimes pilots need their chain yanked to bring them back to reality and Bill had the ability to perform that function in a very diplomacy. He saved us from what could have been a tragic situation, thanks Bill.
