Obituary for Lynn R. Cowan

Mr. Lynn R. Cowan, of East Liverpool, passed away Friday morning, September 19, 2014, at home following a lengthy illness.

Born in Hollsopple, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Howard and Mary Alice Cowan. He moved to the East Liverpool area at a young age and was a crane operator at the former Crucible Steel Company until retiring in 1982 after 30 years of service. During his retirement, he worked part-time at Wal-Mart in Calcutta and Birch’s Do-It Center.

A member of the U.S. Army, he was a Military Policy Officer in Germany. He was a past Boy Scout Master, a member of the East Liverpool Masonic Lodge and the Calcutta Lions Club. He was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1952 and also graduated from Kent State University with a degree in criminal justice.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Cowan, at home. There are three sons, Chris Cowan, and his wife Lori, of East Liverpool, Bill Cowan, and his wife Carol, of East Liverpool, and Jim Cowan, and his wife Trish, of North Lima. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Jeremy, Matthew, Tyler, Zachary, Thaddeus, Logan, Stevie, and Cody and 2 great-grandchildren: Paige and Beau.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister and a brother, Lesley Cowan.

A private memorial service will be conducted at the Dawson Funeral Home.
