Obituary for Anna D. Watkin (Auerbach)

EAST LIVERPOOL – Anna D. Watkin, who was born in East Liverpool and lived here for all of her 97 years, passed away peacefully at the East Liverpool City Hospital at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, with her family at her side.

She was born on September 29, 1916, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Pfenning Auerbach. A student at East Liverpool High School, she was proud of her alma mater and enjoyed attending the ELHS Alumni Association’s Olde Guard luncheons in recent years. A Catholic by faith she also loved bowling, bingo, and the occasional slot machine.

A devoted homemaker, she was the mother of two daughters and two sons, who survive: Mary Watkin-Schonhut of East Liverpool; Ruth Curtis and her husband, Norm, also of East Liverpool; David Watkin and his wife, Darlene, of Sebring, FL; and John Watkin and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Valrico, FL.

There are ten grandchildren: Michael, Mark, Matthew, Steven, Richard, Sharon Skinner and Susan Bomba; Dawn Marie Curtis-Westmoreland; and Christopher and Nathan Schonhut. 14 great-grandchildren survive, as well as three sisters, Margaret Marshall and Eva Smith, both of East Liverpool, and Dorothy Quiring of Pittsburgh.

On April 27, 2004 Anna was preceded in death by her husband Harry R. Watkin whom she married on December 2, 1940. Anna was also preceded by three sisters, Mary Russell, Betty Wurzel and Kate Prodonovich; and three brothers, Joseph, Ambrose, Tony and John Auerbach.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday, where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, with Pastor Donna Todd officiating. Anna will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery. Friends and family will then gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
