Obituary for Jace E Sayre

JACE E. SAYRE, 59

CHESTER – Jace E. Sayre, of Route 8, Chester, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 following an accidental drowning on the Monongalia River in Fayette County, PA. Jace, who had worked on the river for nearly 40 years, had been on a barge working for Murray American Energy at the time of his death. He had most recently been an engineer for Murray.

He was a son of the late Curtis and Iva Myrtle Newman Sayre, born in Chester on July 17, 1956.

In his free time, Jace enjoyed gardening, fishing and remodeling his home.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vickie Brown Sayre. On March 12, 1994, he married the former Susan Adkins Plum, who survives him at home.

Also surviving are three daughters and one son: Rebecca Sayre and her fiancé, Johnnie Landfried, of Chester; Jennifer Coddington of East Liverpool; Ashley Plum, at home in Chester, and Michael Sayre and his companion, Christy Wigfield, of Massillon, OH.

There are eleven grandchildren: Tia Sayre of East Palestine, Joey Keller of Lake Milton, OH, Summer Sayre of Canton, Aiden Sayre of Massillon, Logan Sayre, also of Massillon, Bella Wigfield, also of Massillon; and Samantha May, Bobby May, Victoria May and Tiffany May, all of Chester, and Jianna Coddington of Masontown, PA.

Additional survivors include two sisters and three brothers: Jerry Sayre (Ruth Johnson) of Lakewood, NY; Royal Sayre (Linda Fox) of Chester; Homer Sayre of Chester, Penny Hanlon of East Liverpool; and Nova Everly (Bob) of Pittsburgh.

Rev. Kenneth Stull, co-pastor at Word of Life Church in Wellsville, will officiate at services to be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home.

Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Jace will be laid to rest at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.
