Obituary for Lavonia J Gibson (Adkins)

At the age of 79, Lavonia Jean Adkins Gibson of East Liverpool passed from this life into her eternal rest at 7:11 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Calcutta Health Care Center, where she had resided for some time.

She was born in Sias, West Virginia on January 17, 1936, a daughter of the late Robert and Vola Mae McComas Adkins. A 1935 graduate of Hamlin High School, she made her way to the Apple Creek, OH, area, and had worked in production at the J.M. Smuckers Company. For many years, she had volunteered in the snack bar at Wooster Hospital, and also enjoyed crochet. But she loved nothing more than caring for her home and her family.

In 2011, she and her husband, Russell Edward Gibson, moved to East Liverpool to be closer to her daughter, Cathy. Russell preceded her in death on August 31, 2011. While in this area, she attended Northside Community Church and enjoyed her friendships there.

Survivors include her children, Cathy Plum and her husband, Jim, of East Liverpool, and Bill Walls and his wife, Ann, of Hamlin, WV.

There are three grandchildren: Cristy Bowyer and her husband, Terry; Taunja Kraft and her husband, Chris; and Jason Walls and his wife, Angela, as well as six great-grandchildren: Braydon, Noah, Devin, Kynlee, Joey and Marissa.

Also surviving are two brothers and one sister: Daremus Adkins and his wife, Linda, of Navarre, OH; Dexter Adkins of Brewster, OH; and Pauline Adkins of Massillon, along with special nieces and nephews that were close to her heart: Jody and Mike Adkins and Lori Wyler.

Lavonia will be laid to rest at the family cemetery in Branchland, West Virginia, at a later date. Per her wishes, there are no services or calling hours planned. The Dawson Funeral Home has been entrusted with her arrangements.
