Obituary for Lynda McCoy Byland (McCoy)

Lynda McCoy Byland, former area resident, passed away just before midnight Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the Covenant Health Care Center in Saginaw, MI. Lynda, who was 79, had moved to Michigan recently to be near to her daughter.

She was born in East Liverpool on June 18, 1935, a daughter of the late Garner McCoy and Dorothy McCoy Eaton. She was a 1953 graduate of East Liverpool High School, and had been a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.

Lynda married Richard Donald Byland on June 2, 1956, and together they moved their family to Mantua, OH, in 1963. For almost 20 years, she was a food service supervisor for the Crestwood School District, retiring in 1999. While there, Lynda was also active in Crestwood Athletic Booster Club, and had been president of Crestwood’s PTA and Girl Scout Leader. In 2003, she and Dick moved to the Guilford Lake area, where they were able to take the much-deserved time to relax and enjoy life.

While living in Michigan, she attended Hopevale Church and enjoyed activities at Swan Haven Manor.

Her husband, Dick, preceded her in death on October 18, 2013.

Surviving are two daughters and one son: David Byland and his wife, Laura, of Birmingham, AL, Debbie Papenfuse, and her husband, Dr. Michael Papenfuse, of Saginaw; Terri Ijamal and her husband, Rashid, of Thompson Station, TN.. There are eight grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as a sister, Kay Ryan of East Liverpool.

Lynda was also preceded in death by her father, Garner McCoy, mother Dorothy Eaton, step-father, Kenneth Eaton.

Services will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, with Pastor Ken MacGillivray of Hopevale Church, officiating, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the Dawson Family Center.

Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the American Heart Association.
