Natalie (Porter) Smith, 97
HOLLAND, PA - Natalie (Porter) Smith, 97, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away January 3, 2016 at Twining Village, Holland, PA.
Born October 29, 1918 in New Cumberland, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James and Josephine (Lovell) Porter and was a graduate of West Virginia University. She was an active member of Paxton Presbyterian Church; a member of the Hancock County, WV 4-H; Linglestown Park and Recreation Board, Linglestown Women's Club; Linglestown Community Garden Club; the Garden Club of Harrisburg; The Garden Club Federation of PA; the University of Pittsburgh Golden Panthers, and was involved in both the Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was an avid bridge player and gardener; however, her greatest joy came from being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Her beloved husband, Maynard H. Smith, passed away in 1999 after 56 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: James Porter Jr. and John Porter, as well as her sisters: Helen Porter Brenneman and her husband, Charles Brenneman, and Leah Porter Carter and her husband, James Carter.
Surviving are her five children: Robert B. Smith, (wife Patricia, deceased); Helen S. (and her husband, Willard) Nado; David P. (and his wife, Sally) Smith; John P. (and his wife, Bonnie) Smith; and William M. (and his wife, Margaret) Smith; her nine loving grandchildren: Michael (and his wife, Amy) Smith; Jeffrey Smith; Brian (and his wife, Rebecca) Stevens, Tara Stevens, Christopher (and his wife, Mauri) Smith, Julia (and her husband Jay) Johnson; Jennifer (and her husband, Francis) Erickson; Steven (and his wife, Carla) Smith; and Timothy (and his wife, Amanda) Smith; 14 great-grandchildren; and her extended family, nephew James Carter and niece Courtney Carter.
On Monday, January 11, 2016, there will be a viewing from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by services at 11:00 am at Paxton Presbyterian Church, 3500 Sharon Street, Harrisburg, with Rev. John W. Green officiating.
On Tuesday, January 12, 2016, there will be a viewing from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by services at 11:00 am at Nessly Chapel in Hancock County, WV, with Rev. Robert Macek officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, East Liverpool, Ohio.
Contributions may be made in Mrs. Smith’s memory to a charity of choice.
