As a son-in-law, I can honestly say I've only seen Pappy mad one time. Anyone who knows him, knows Pap was a 30 year employee of the Dodge -Chryler Corp......thus he was a die-hard MOPAR man. However he never busted my chops about being a Ford guy. However, about four years ago me and Catrina decided we were going to go to the Mountaineer and rather then drive our Tauras we decided to rent a new car. So.....I rented a white 2010 Nissan Altima Hybrid, and had it cleaned up and paraded dressed. We never went to the Moutaineer without stopping to see Mom and Dad so we parked and went in........just when we were about to leave I told Pappy, "You gotta come out here and see this car!". Mind you, I never told him whether I bought it or not ,I honestly thought he would like the car and if he liked it I was seriously considering buying one. So....Pap comes to the steps and to see this shiny new Nissan and the first thing he says is, " Why the heck did you go and do that!". I knew then that I had him on the hook and I wasnt going to let go.....I started messing with him about how nice of a car it was etc. etc. Pap goes on to tell me about how these foreign companies are taking jobs from the American Auto Workers, and the man is just livid!!! I push his buttons about Japanese cars being better cars then American cars and I swear we had a dialoge that I was about to get punched out!!!!.......then I told him ," Pap I just rented this car for the day.", and his only reply was that, " Well I woundnt even have rented that POS!!". After that, I bought our Mustang and all he was proud of was the fact that it was American made. He never said anything except......at least its American. When I brought My Lincoln MKX up there last summer , he came out to look at it and replied, "Now you have a vehicle!",....and his acceptence was known when he talked about AMERICAN cars. On Sunday, right before he passed me and Catrina went to visit and stay with him. Van Jr, said " Pappy, Esmond done turned me into a Ford man ." Paps reply was........" Aint nothing wrong wit a Stankin Lincoln!".......lol.......Love you sooooo much Pappy.....may you always rest in peace.
