The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Shirley Green can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

No Rocking Chair for You

You were not the rocking chair sitting, cookie baking, sweater knitting grandmother who showered hugs, kisses, and praise. So, when you did hug, kiss, and praise, I knew it was honest and real. Thank you for teaching me the difference.

My only hope is I can remember all the things I learned through you:

- To have the courage to be opinionated, flawed, and disliked, and holding my chin up.

- To love – even if in my own way – when fear and insecurity tamper my kindness and caring.

- The strength and determination to stay the course and persevere through life's trials and uncertainties.

- The imagination and creativity to make magical moments and wonderlands.

- To take pride and care in appearances.

You worked outside of the home – next to your husband, raised seven children – and sometimes your grandchildren, and were home to make dinner almost every night. All of this and you still find times for arts, gardening, and community.

You will always be close to my heart and I will always try to think of you with only happiness. But I cannot promise that the sight of a dahlia, a listing of buckwheat pancakes on a menu, and Christmas decorating won't cause a twinge of sadness.

No, you weren't a traditional grandma.

You are and always will be my Gma and I love and thank you!

Kiss pap and give him my love
