Obituary for Charles S. Taylor

Rev. Charles S. Taylor, longtime area pastor, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Weirton Medical Center where he had been a patient for the last 8 weeks. He was 81.

Born in Pennsville, New Jersey, May 1, 1933, he was a son of the late John and Grace Barber Taylor. Chuck was called to the ministry at the age of 16 when he traveled with the Crusaders ministerial group where he would visit communities and conduct services along the entire eastern coast of the United States. It was there that he met his wife, Cora Belle Walker Taylor. They would later marry on May 1, 1953.

In 1960, he was called to the Friendship Gospel Tabernacle in East Liverpool where he would pastor for the next 54 years. He also worked as a union carpenter in the area.

Cora Belle passed away on March 27, 2009. He was also preceded in death by a son, Carl Taylor, as well as two brothers, Samuel Taylor and Thomas Taylor.

Survivors include a daughter, Cinda L. Taylor of East Liverpool, and a son, Charles W. “Wes” Taylor, Sr., and his wife, Karen, of Newell. There are seven grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

There are three sisters, Alma Hannah of New Jersey, Grace Gleason of East Liverpool and Ellie Taylor of New Jersey, along with two brothers, John Taylor, and his wife Roberta, of Florida, and Otis Taylor, and his wife Millie, of Delaware.

Friends may visit Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Locust Hill Cemetery.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
